Exactly Sandra! No matter what stage you’re at in your career, having a work-life balance will forever be a struggle.

However, entrepreneurs have to realize that everything is a choice. You choose to work 14–18 hours per day. You choose not to workout and hang out with your spouse/kids. You choose to be stressed out and running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Work-life will never be in balance, and it shouldn’t It’s a trigger phrase for those who are unhappy. The continuing crusade for this “balance” will run you into the ground, burnt out. And you can either burn out as a business, or — worse — burn out as a friend or family member.

Instead, set up time. It’s your #1 asset and it’s dwindling. So make sure when you’re at work, you’re working. When you’re at home, be at home. Presence, lack of potential distraction from your environment. THAT is the key.

If you try and force yourself into 8-hour work constraints, your work could potentially falter. Same goes for family time or personal time. But, if you give yourself the freedom to stay in the flow of your current environment, you’ll get your best self in that predicament.

That’s where working on a project for a few weeks or a couple months is beneficial. This is why 2-week long trips to somewhere vastly different is a fantastic reset button.

So, to summarize, while work-balance isn’t a “myth,” it shouldn’t be the ultimate goal. Neither should happiness. The goal should be to be your best self based on your current environment. The balance is the mindset — being fully conscious of your physical and emotional surroundings, taking your time seriously by staying put with where you’re at.
