93 Days Away: ENOUGH RAIN ALREADY

This is starting to feel like torture…

Take me back, sunshine!

This is a daily documentation of my adventure from Hillsboro, Oregon to Cape Town, South Africa on September 16th, 2017.

Day 8, not so great

When my sister tells me the night before that, “There’s 100% chance of rain tomorrow” — and we’re on the brink of summer — it’s a sign that I need to leave.

Allergies + Rain + Difficulty Breathing +6 Hours of Sleep = Torture

And yes, I’m aware 6 hours of sleep on average is my fault, but that is reason #436 for why I’m leaving for South Africa in September. I am the proverbial Night Owl; I go to bed between 1 and 2 AM, even if I have to get up for work in the morning. This whole “9-to-5” BS is really starting to mess up my circadian rhythms, if not completely wreck my quality of sleep and creativity.

It’s time for a change.

I have a very different plan for how my life is going to be lived. Here is my dream scenario for a typical day in Cape Town:

  • 9 AM (or 9:30 if I feel like it): Wake up, walk to my favorite nearby cafe.
  • 10 AM: Order two cappuccinos, pop open my laptop, write for the next three to four hours.
  • 1 PM: Unplug; have a delicious lunch with my girlfriend Jess.
  • 2 PM: Spend one to two hours taking care of my website, engaging with my followers, responding to email…you know, necessary stuff.
  • 4 PM: Done for the day, work-wise. Use next 8 hours to relax in the falling sun with people I love.
  • 12 AM: Wind down with a good book. Fall asleep around 1 (or 2) in the morning.

Pure bliss right there. Can’t wait for it to be a reality in three months!

What’s your dream day? Do you want to wake up naturally to the sound of the waves? What time? How do you spend the first three hours of your day, the time where your creativity flows the best? Who are you spending your time with? These are all incredibly important questions in narrowing down your purpose in my opinion.

I’ll tell you when I get there if this imagined fantasy can be real life. (Looks like I’m more of a “10-to-4” person.)

In the meantime, I get to look at rain streaks outside my window. Yippee.
