This is a daily documentation of my adventure from Hillsboro, Oregon to Cape Town, South Africa on September 16th, 2017.
Day 31, and all of my weekends are booked
I’m not kidding when I say that all of my weekends are booked. This weekend is my cousin’s graduation party, followed by a murder mystery hosted by my friend. Next weekend is my birthday celebrations (yes, that’s plural). Then Jess’ friend comes down from Seattle for the next weekend, we go down to Redmond to visit Jess’ parents the weekend after, then one free Saturday and Sunday. To finish it off, we camp, camp, then go to New York in August.
Then it’s a mere matter of days until our lives in South Africa.
In short: This shit is bananas (cue Gwen Stefani).
Honestly, I don’t mind the hectic schedule. It makes the summer go fast and furious, a speed I’m comfortable with. And now that everyone knows about Jess and I’s plans for world domination — or at least that we’re headed to Cape Town soon — we can all have a good final hoorah!
This is what I’ve always preached: Life is about living, experiencing the outside world, seeing what opportunities are out there and then grabbing them and running away with them.
One recent opportunity that came my way is becoming an editor for the very publication I am publishing this on. The Wake Up Call has been a fantastic platform for me to showcase my daily writing abilities, serving as an online diary of sorts. Shout out to the main man Kevin D.S for being a stud editor in chief!
I’m incredibly grateful and excited for being an editor!
This summer will never end…at least for me. We leave mid-September, when the last rays of golden sunlight touch Oregon for the remainder of the year. And while we are hitting up South Africa right after their “winter,” we will be expecting lows of 65 degrees and a normal range in the 70s.
Pure bliss.
I know I expressed gratitude in yesterday’s post, but I can’t help but dote on how lucky I’ve been. To even have the opportunity to travel is amazing in itself, but to try and make a living off of what I love is the golden icing on the cake.
But I’m not the only one with this potential. Take a look at your own life. Could you imagine making a living from a laptop in Southeast Asia? How about working on a novel in the heart of Paris, France?
I know these sound corny and unattainable, but it’s definitely corny and definitely attainable. It’s bullshit to think that you can’t do what you dream of doing.
MAKE IT HAPPEN.
