67 Days Away: Do I Have An Escape?

Can I just stop this daily writing to focus on my craft instead?

This is a daily documentation of my adventure from Hillsboro, Oregon to Cape Town, South Africa on September 16th, 2017.

Day 34 puts me at a crossroad

With the sad dismissal of The Wake Up Call, my daily writing up until my three-month trip to South Africa has become a latchkey kid: Alone, homeless, kind of unwanted at this point.

What to do, what to do?

Yesterday I was contemplating whether to send these in to other publications so that people could see them. Now I’m wondering whether daily writing is useful at all. I mean, I know it is; posting an article daily has made me write consistently for the last month and a half. Plus, when I look back on my journey, I can reference these as snapshots of my days.

But is that reason enough to continue these posts?

Obviously, I don’t do these particular posts for anybody but myself. A tad bit selfish, but I’ve always known this to be a daily diary. And who should a diary be for?

However, that is not what Medium is for, in my opinion. I could write my daily posts anywhere, farther away from all of the eyes that flicker over subtitles and the people who click in and out of articles like they’re popping motivation pills.

So I really am questioning my stance on this.

That’s why I need you.

By my estimation, about 10 people will see this post (if I’m lucky). You hold the fate of my 10 AM hour slot in your hands.

Should I continue this daily documentation until I leave for South Africa, or should I focus my efforts on creating 3 quality articles per week focused on my niche?

I really do respect the opinions of others, especially others who actually read these daily posts. Some recommend and some highlight, and I love the support for sure, but I think my other writing might be suffering because of these daily posts.

It’s not that I want to quit; far from it. I will continue to write, and I will never stop writing. I’m a writer, dammit! I write! But I think my words can serve a better purpose elsewhere.

I’m not sure, though. That’s for the audience to decide.

I write about whatever interests me in the current moment: sports, entertainment, creative writing, lifestyle, etc. I'm tired of not being who I am.
